About
Made by Cheick · not officialDodgeHours was made by me, Cheick, a Columbia student who got tired of guessing whether there was a court open. You can reach me at cma2253@columbia.edu. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or maintained by Columbia University, Columbia Athletics, or Physical Education & Recreation.
It is a student-made guide to the Dodge Fitness Center at Columbia University (3030 Broadway, Morningside Heights, New York): building hours, open recreation times in the Blue Gym and the Levien Gym for basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer, Uris Pool open swim, the strength-floor closures for PE classes, intramural bookings, and how crowded the gym is from anonymous student reports.

Common questions
Common questions
Is Dodge open right now? The Now tab answers that for the current minute: building, pool, strength floors and each court, with how long is left and what changes next.
When is the Blue Gym open for basketball? Basketball open rec runs in the Blue Gym and on the Levien courts at different times each day. Pick Basketball at the top and the Schedule tab lists every slot this week and next. Shared open rec means every sport is on the floor and a court is not guaranteed.
How crowded is Dodge? Students report how packed it is from inside the building. A time slot shows a crowd level once it has enough reports, and the Crowd tab shows the weekly pattern.
Can I get a notification when a court opens? Yes. Turn on alerts under the sport chips to get a push 15 minutes before open rec for your sports, tap any block on the Schedule tab for a one-off reminder, and a weekly digest arrives on Sunday evenings.
Who runs this? A Columbia student, not the university. Official hours live at perec.columbia.edu.
Get the app
Get the app
Adding DodgeHours to your home screen makes it open like an app with no browser bar, keeps the last schedule available offline inside Dodge where signal drops, and is what makes sport alerts possible.
You are already using the installed app. Nothing to do here.
Open in Safari to installThis page is open inside another app, which cannot install web apps.
- Open this page in Safari (other iPhone browsers cannot install web apps).
- Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap View more in the share sheet, then Add to Home Screen, then Add.
- Open DodgeHours from the new icon. Turn on Notify me from there if you want alerts; iPhone only allows them from the installed app.
- Open this page in Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right.
- Tap Install app (older versions say Add to Home screen), then confirm.
- Open DodgeHours from the new icon. Alerts work from the browser or the installed app.
DodgeHours is meant for your phone. Open this page there (Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android) and the steps for adding it to your home screen will show up here.
This browser does not offer the home-screen install. DodgeHours still works here as a normal website; Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android can install it.
Sport alerts
Sport alerts
Alerts push 15 minutes before open rec for the sports you follow. Turn them on with Notify me under the sport chips on the Now tab. Tap any upcoming block on the Schedule tab to get a one-off reminder for just that slot, and the weekly digest lands every Sunday at 6 PM.
Where the data comes from
Where the data comes from
| Building, pool and office hours; PE closures | Copied by hand each semester from the PE & Rec Hours of Operation and Modified Hours & Closures pages. |
|---|---|
| Blue Gym and Levien open-rec blocks | The two public Google Calendars PE & Rec embeds on the hours page, pulled as calendar feeds and re-synced daily. Titles like "Badminton: West Court ONLY, Basketball: East Court ONLY" are split into one entry per court. |
| Intramural games | The public IMLeagues facility pages for Levien and the Blue Gym, read by the same daily sync. They show booked hours but not which league. |
| How packed, and what is on each court | Anonymous check-ins from people on this site. One report per device per hour (per court every 30 minutes for court reports). A time slot only shows a crowd level once it has 3 reports in the last 4 weeks. |
Every official hour is posted as "tentative and subject to change without notice." When the calendar and the building disagree, the building wins. Report it below.

Privacy
No accounts and no names. The site keeps a random ID in your browser so one device cannot stuff the crowd numbers; it is not tied to you. Visitor counts come from Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookie-free and does not identify you. Feedback is emailed to Cheick with whatever contact you choose to include. If you turn on alerts, the push subscription, the sports you follow and your two alert settings (quiet hours, shared open rec) are stored only while alerts are on and are deleted when you turn them off.
